With just under a month left until Halloween, it’s still unclear how “normal” the holiday typically filled with ghouls, goblins, and ghosts galore will be. Nonetheless, this holiday is the one where people get to show their creativity through dressing up, so we are ready to help you plan your costume for any spooky celebrations you plan to attend. Every year costumes are brought to life through the circulation of pop culture, media, and more, and the following costumes have tons of buzz surrounding them.
The Cast of Bridgerton
Anyone from Bridgerton, especially Queen Charlotte or Daphne Bridgerton, can be brought to life by embodying Regency-era extravagance through gorgeous gowns and jewelry. For Queen Charlotte, a big unique wig is a must, and a pastel corset top will channel Daphne. Create your Bridgerton Dress with the help of our free sewing pattern.

Cruella de Vil
In the live-action film Cruella that premiered in theatres earlier this year, the fashion-forward takes on Cruella’s fashions made a statement that needs to be recreated. To embody Cruella, simply take her classic black, white, and red color palette and add an edgy twist to it. To create your Cruella-inspired designs check out the Ercilla Suit to mimic her black cape finale costume, make her signature flame-red dress with a black and white wig and long gloves, or go all out with Mood’s free Cruella Coat sewing pattern!

The Roses from Schitt’s Creek
Grab your black-tie events clothing for this one. The Roses dress elegantly in a way that screams wealth and splendor, and who doesn’t want to dress like a million bucks in full glam for a bit of Halloween fun. To dress like Moira: think black and white, fringe, feathers, fur, and total over-the-top accessories.

Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus
Labeled a Halloween movie classic, whether you’re going in a group of three or dressing up alone, grab a petticoat, a satin dress with puffed sleeves, and your best Sanderson sisters’ impressions, and you’re set for a simply wicked good time.

Gossip Girl
In the reboot of Gossip Girl, the looks presented in the Upper East Siders are preppy in a modern way. To recreate any look from Julien, Monet, or Luna, just tap into the preppy looks that are all the rage at the moment. Think blazers, dress shirts, turtlenecks, and micro-minis.

Harley Quinn
Harley Quinn from DC’s Suicide Squad has been a Halloween costume staple for a while now, and Margot Robbie’s take on it has only fueled more adaptable ways to portray the character. A red and black leather color-blocked skin suit complete with a cropped leather jacket is sure to embody the Harley Quinn aesthetic sans her signature red and blue pigtails. Grab a bat, some knuckle gloves, and some flash tattoos, and you’re all set. Need more inspo? Try something like this steampunk version of Harley or grab some rainbow fringe sequins to make her newly iconic jacket!

House of Gucci Characters
While House of Gucci doesn’t yet premiere until later this year, fashion lovers have already made the exclusive trailer go viral. To dress like the real-life power couple, Patrizia Regianni or Maurizio Gucci, think 80s-glam ski outfits complete with knit turtlenecks and lots of fur. Don’t forget oversized Gucci-inspired glasses for Maurizio and lots of chunky gold accessories for Patrizia.

While it feels like I’ve only scratched the surface of some iconic Halloween costume ideas, the list above leaves a lot of room for choosing your favorite character and outfit that they wore. Create your costume with a little help from some of our free sewing patterns. Don’t forget to shop our luxurious fabrics and trims to nail the looks from above.
