The color trends for summer/spring are fresh and enticing! From the runways to your wardrobe, these colors range from bright and bold for a little excitement to more pastel and understated shades for a more calm and serene experience. Don’t worry–there are color options in various shades to work for a wide range of styles.
1. Very Peri
It’s no surprise that the Pantone Color of the Year is a trending color. Described as a violet-red color with blue highlights, it represents cautious optimism. S/S ‘22 Runway collections set the bar high with looks saturated in intense purple. Designers like Valentino and Tod’s showcased looks in very peri while other designers incorporated different shades of purple—but Very Peri is the star of the purple universe for S/S ‘22 color trends. The Taro Jumper free sewing pattern and very peri would make a sensational combo.
2. Bright Yellow
Last year’s color of the year, Illuminating, is far from forgotten, especially during the warm weather season. Both pale buttery and bright popcorn yellow hues are trending, and there is much inspo to be gathered from the S/S ‘22 collections. Grab a yellow blazer or opt for a dress/overcoat combo, teamed with complementary colors like green for a fun look or brown for a great transition into fall. The Parker Corset and Watsonia Pants combo is a must-try in bright yellow.
3. Blood Orange
Think bright and bold with orange this season. Blood orange, sunset orange, and burnt orange are just a few of the shades to choose from. Consider orange a welcome change from the predictable pastels that come around every spring/summer. Orange looks particularly delicious in a flowy, floor-sweeping summer dress perfect for a resort-style vacation! The Rhodes Infinity Dress free sewing pattern would look stunning in blood orange!
4. Hot Pink
Bright shades of pink are popping up like bubblegum! Pink in all the brightest hues is sure to reserve a rightful place in a summer wardrobe. Imagine a bubble gum pink bikini complete with a sarong in a matching tone or a flashy pink satin top and trousers look complete with a blazer for a total boss babe look. Pink has been having a moment, and this season, the moment continues. Try the Reed Swimsuit free sewing pattern in hot pink for a look that’s as hot as the summer heat!
5. Kiwi Green
Cue Kiwi green while kelly green steps away from center stage, at least for the summer season. The S/S runways were flooded with this slightly warmer-toned green that still offers a brightness expected in a summer shade. Kiwi green looks especially decadent in metallic and lustrous fabric like satin. It’s important to note that kelly green is runner-up to kiwi green and is still trending. It’s a great option for those who find kiwi green more difficult to wear. The Aurora Dress free sewing pattern and kiwi green would be a juicy pairing.
It’s safe to say that the pastels of spring surely will come back around next year, but the vivaciously bold colors of summer are fun and stacked with options that appeal to many styles and skin tones. I’ve already started wearing these fun summer colors, and they get a 10/10 from me!
