Posted on May 15, 2020 by Lee Norris

Brocade is a constant staple in high-end fashion. Gorgeous and luxurious, it can be transformed into any number of garments, particularly skirts and gowns. Lately though, it's been seen on the runways in some unexpected forms, namely shorts and suits. And with summer around the corner, I can't wait to try these trends out for myself. For today's outfit, I'll show you how I created this modernized shorts suit using Mood's free Blackberry Suit sewing pattern!

The original pattern calls for a knit, but luckily doesn't require a ton of stretch. Because of this, I didn't need to size up or anything, but I did add an invisible zipper to the side seam of the shorts.

The top, I absolutely adore. The collar and lapels have so much volume in a brocade and I love it. I did choose to skip the lower peplum and make this more of a cropped blazer. I also cut lining from the back and sleeve pattern piece, and created a side front lining piece to connect to the lapel facing.
