Trims, trims, and more trims! 2018 was filled to the brim with trims of every type. Some designers even made garments entirely out of trim! Let’s take a look at the top trims of 2018.
Fringe
Fringe reigned supreme this year, hanging off of every type of garment. Alice + Olivia create a skirt with fringe all over it, and Elie Saab and MM6 Maison Margiela utilize the longest fringe possible. Missoni utilizes tiers of fringe for a stunning silhouette, while Pamella Roland simply accents a cocktail dress with fringe.

Fur Trim
Fur trim was stitched onto many of the garments that graced the runway this year. Collars were the most popular, seen in Sally LaPointe’s collection and Chanel. Sleeves were also popular for fur trim, like Roberto Cavalli’s and Fendi. Adam Lippes stepped out of the box with pockets made of fur trim.

Pleats
Pleated garments were popular on the runway this season. Brooks Brothers utilized thicker pleats, while Versus Versace and Fendi used much smaller ones. Versace’s pleated skirt pairs beautifully with a puffy jacket, and Roberto Cavalli’s pleated leather skirt transitions into leopard print with so much ease, it’s as if they were made for each other.

Tiers
Tiers of fabric were used on the runway, a beautiful detail that adds depth and texture to a garment. Erdem and Alice + Olivia use smaller tiers, almost like ruffled accents, while Cinq a Sept’s longer tiers add dramatic movement to the piece. Marissa Webb’s velvet dress was the cutest tiers, while Red Valentino’s tulle tiers give off an edgy ballerina look.

wow some of those girls are so thin, they look like they would blow away at the first breath of a breeze. Sad to see fur making a come back, i know that faux fur is available but likely real fur will be used too. Love the pleating styles though, always so classy.
Yes, so thin! There are designers showing bigger girls though, Chromat and Christian Siriano mix all different body types in. Designers just need to recognize that average and bigger women can be editorial, too. Honestly, faux fur is used by a lot of major designers, and Gucci just committed to going fur-free. I’m sure there are more to come, especially since so much fur is colorful these days, it doesn’t make sense to use real animal fur and then dye it.
