Imagine a world where your shirt is a dress, which is also a skirt, and sometimes a cape. Designers are living in that world for Spring 2018, with a variety of collections displaying detachable garments for Spring 2018 Ready-to-Wear. Let’s take a look at the best pieces of detachable clothing on the runway this season.
Dresses
Detachable dresses were the most versatile of the bunch, as they are comprised of so many other garments. Alena Akhmadullina’s light blue dress has a removable skirt and sleeves, making it the ideal transitional garment for going from dinner at an elegant restaurant to an evening on the town. Both Prabal Gurung and Christopher Esber created dresses with removable mid sections, ideal for turning a comfortable dress into an edgy top and skirt set. La Perla’s dress gives some interesting options when it comes to a detachable skirt and strap, while Sara Battaglia’s dress can be broken down into a crop top and skirt.

Jumpers
Detachable jumpers are similar to dresses, as their detachable ability can take them from jumpers to a pair of pants and a top in a flash. La Perla’s jumper let’s you show as much skin as you want, and Tsumori Chisato’s jumper goes from jumper to pants with just a couple of buttons.

Skirts
Removable skirts were all the rage this season, with Alena Akhmadullina showing off a maxi skirt falling from the top of her dress. Maison Kitsune’s front panel comes off from the skirt, similar to Prabal Gurung and Tibi. Self-Portrait’s skirt was held together with rings, a bit of the lining peeking through.

Tops
Detachable tops are perfect for those early Spring days, when the morning is cold as winter but by the afternoon the sun has warmed everything around you. Adam Lippes and Christopher Kane both have tops that allow the wearer some air, while Rag & Bone and Prabal Gurung both utilize detachable sleeves. The bottom piece of La Perla’s crop top turns this piece into a daring bralette.
