Summer is winding down, and although I’ll miss bikinis and mini skirts, I’m very much looking forward to sipping pumpkin spice hot chocolate in over-sized boyfriend sweaters and pretending to watch football while online shopping. I’m also looking forward to the beautiful prints and patterns that Fall 2018 Ready-to-Wear has graced us with, and how they will be incorporated into Spring. So, let’s take a look at the prints of Fall 2018, and how that translates into Spring Ready-to-Wear.
Plaid seems like the obvious bet for fall prints, but this trend is much tighter. Clean lines and even spacing, clean plaid was all the rage for Fall 2018. Balenciaga’s pencil skirt is paired perfectly with matching boots, and Prada’s coat features the perfect burst of blue. Fendi’s vinyl trench has the loveliest shine to it, while Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini creates an entire suit of evenly spaced plaid. This trend transfers well into Spring, with Nanushka showing a lovely blazer in plaid.
Pick out these plaids:
Geometric print is pleasing to the eye in all ways. Duru Olowu used multiple geometric prints for a wonderful effect, while Fendi stuck with one simple print. Gucci’s geometric print is reminiscent of Islamic Geometric Patterns, and Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini’s dress is a beautiful print of diamonds and stripes. Self-Portrait’s long tunic dress for spring brings geometric prints into the warmer months with softer colors.
Get geometric with it:
Houndstooth is a very popular fall print, and Balenciaga displays it with artistry and pairs houndstooth with a floral skirt, while Miu Miu pairs houndstooth with houndstooth. Dolce & Gabbana accents sequins with houndstooth and Redemption uses a large houndstooth for the perfect fall coat. Opening Ceremony utilizes a very small houndstooth print, bringing this print into Spring.
Take home houndstooth:
Panel prints are typical on silken scarves, but they’ve branched out this season. 3.1 Philip Lim fashions a fanciful skirt from panel prints, while Toga goes for a blouse. Marine Serre’s dress is a beautiful show of panel prints, and Gucci’s skirt suit is a sophisticated style. Custo Barcelona brings this style into spring with an off-center halter dress utilizing panel prints.

Tropical Prints in the fall may seem absurd, but these prints are popping for Fall 2018. Check out Mood’s own Stephanie in the Zenobia Dress, coming this Friday! Cynthia Rowley and Fendi both utilize muted tropical tones, while Karen Walker and R13 go all in for this tropical trend. This trend transitions easily into spring, displayed by Osklen with their beautiful tropical print ensemble.
