When most people think of lingerie on the runway, they think of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Many designers, though, will weave lingerie throughout their ready-to-wear collections. Let’s take a look at the lingerie trends we’ve seen this year.
Bedazzled
Bedazzling the body is the latest trend when it comes to lingerie. Alexis Mabille splices lingerie with an evening gown, and Azzaro fashions a see-through slip that glitters like the stars. Chanel’s bodysuit showcases giant jewels and well-placed cutouts, and Winnie Harlow wears Philipp Plein’s encrusted bodysuit with power.

Bralette
The bralette is the psuedo-bra that’s been sweeping the runways, popping up under sheer shirts. Alexander Wang pairs a sheer bralette with a brazen blazer, while Cinq a Sept and Emilia Wickstead show bralettes as blouses. Jil Sanders shows the proper way to sport a bralette, with sports bra style under a sheer button-up.

Long Skirts
Designers have been playing with the idea of modesty, showing off full-coverage, sheer gowns and mini skirts with high necklines and long sleeves (a la The Hydrangea Gown, sans slip). Lingerie with long skirts have been making their way down the runway, such as Area’s bejeweled, and totally sheer ensemble. Jonathan Simkhai utilized lace and leg slits for a lovely slip, while Prabal Gurung attached a sheer skirt to an opaque slip. Sandra Mansour shows an embroidered lace ensemble with a high neck that utilizes opaque and mesh spacing elegantly.

Ready-to-Wear
Lingerie is typically utilized in the boudoir, but lately, designers have paired lingerie with ready-to-wear. Jeremy Scott utilizes a pair of high-waisted panties paired with a cropped sweater to make a statement, while Johnathan Simkhai and Red Valentino went with more subtle ensembles. Zadig & Voltaire paired a simple slip with some broken-in jeans for a sexy, slouchy look.
