Trend Report: Milan Fashion Week Spring 2018 Ready-to-Wear

Posted on September 27, 2017 by Molly Hannelly

As we close the curtain on Milan Fashion Week, we're left in a flurry of fabrics and fashion. From tie dye to trench coats, vinyl to violet, Milan was alive with a passion for fashion. It's time for us to take a look at the top trends from this year's Milan Fashion Week.

Earth Tones

Milan emulated mother earth this season, as earth tones made up a major portion of the color schemes for Spring 2018. Bottega Veneta's rusty red pants paired with a green top and brown coat, are perfect for spending the day advocating for the Earth, while Simonetta's fur vest and brown skirt can be seen at a cabin estate. Trussardi's sunset bra and brown pants were made for driving down the shore and relaxing on the patio, taking in the sea breeze, and Santoni's floral coat are ideal for April showers, whether you're splashing about in puddles or running from the rain. Erika Cavallini utilizes softer earth tones to create the perfect rainy day ensemble, for hiding away in a corner café or riding trains around the countryside.

English

The English language was plastered across many of the collections, some speaking volumes, while others saying nothing at all. Alberta Ferretti is ready for the weekend, with a stunning glittery jacket thrown over a saturday sweater, while Moschino admits that life is what it is with a "shirt happens" t-shirt, a great outfit for going to a rock concert or hitting up the New York club scene. Rossella Jardini reminds as all to be confident, with their "I am the most elegant woman I know" t-shirt, paired with stunning trousers that make this the perfect ensemble for luncheons. Gucci gives a warning to "Never Marry a Milford," and Au Jour Le Jour's "irreversible" t-shirt matched perfectly with their inside-out shorts.

Head Wrap

Models kept their hair all wrapped up this season, with many collections creating head wraps that matched their garments. Antonio Marras' head wrap is ideal for an afternoon in Milan, sipping espresso and shopping the finest designers, while Versace's was meant for convertible rides with the top down, winding through mountains and laughing in the breeze. For Restless Sleepers' head wrap is perfect for turning bad hair days into good wrap day, and Gucci puts a cap on the wrap that glitters, perfect for dancing the night away in a lover's arms.

Italian Aesthetic

Milan was alive with the spirit of Italia this season, evoking the Italian aesthetic in many collections. Antonio Marras celebrated the liveliness of Italy with a ruched and embroidered little black dress, perfect for dancing all night. Blumarine and Dolce & Gabbana also created little black dresses, made for walking through the farmer's market and smelling the fresh tomatoes, strangers picking flowers for you to put in your hair. Luisa Beccaria's sweet and simple floral dress and matching cardigans and be seen sitting on a boat on the Amalfi Coast, enjoying the fresh sea air and sunlight, while Versace's warp dress and bralette with matching head wrap, is perfect for sunbathing on the beach.

Romantic Attire

Passion and romance were common themes this season, with romantic ensembles hitting the runway in every collection. Blumarine creates the perfect outfit for a date while on vacation, seeing the shore with a summer, or spring, love. Antonio Marras' ensemble is ideal for seeing a long lost lover, meeting at a café you used to frequent. Dolce & Gabbana's "Queen of Love" dress is perfect for finding the perfect partner, while Luisa Beccaria's innocent, yet revealing, dress was made for shying away from the advances of others. Moschino goes all in with a dress shaped like a bouquet.
