New York Fashion Week, where top designers showcase everything they’ve been working on, and give us a little taste of what we’ll be wearing next fall. There were a lot of changes this year, with designers dropping out last minute or moving their runway shows to different cities or seasons. But, you can always count on New York Fashion Week for a good show, and this year was no different. Let’s take a look at the hottest trends to come out of NYFW for Fall 2018 Ready-to-Wear.
Colorful Fur
Although we’ve been seeing this trend quite a lot in 2018, we haven’t seen it like this. Designers have gotten bolder with their fur colors, such as Christian Siriano’s striking red fur coat, and have even incorporated patterns like Diane von Furstenberg’s phenomenal striped blue and pink coat. Some designers were more subtle with their colors, like Alena Akhmadullina’s single blue stripe on the fur coat, while others had fun with it, as seen in Philipp Plein’s beautiful ombre fur coat. Michael Kors paired this colorful fur coat trend with another big trend this season, gamboge.

Folksy Floral
The quaint floral of cabins and prairie life hit it big at New York Fashion Week. A Detacher’s floral coat features the sweetest pink flowers, while Anna Sui does what she does best with a loud and colorful floral dress, also utilizing gamboge in the process. Haus Alkire does folksy floral the fashionable way, with peacocks on a beautiful coat, and Jonathan Cohen creates a cute and quaint matching skirt set with a small floral and insect pattern. Trina Turk incorporates a more sixties looking folksy floral in a beautiful bomber jacket with contrast sleeves.

Milly’s simple sweater pairs perfectly with the bright sequin skirt, and Oscar de la Renta shows a sweet looking gamboge dress with large floral appliques. Ulla Johnson’s poweful gamboge coat is perfect for staying sunny on a frigid fall day.

Velvet Suiting
Suits have been very popular this year, with leisure suits walking on almost every runway. But, designers have focused on velvet suiting for Fall 2018. It’s no surprise that Alice + Olivia are at the forefront of this trend, with a beautiful velvet suit featuring flared pants, while Brandon Maxwell shows something quite different from his Dallas themed show in the Spring. Cinq a Sept and Frame utilize the genderless trend that has been popular, with more masculine looking suits, and Rachel Antonoff’s beautiful green suit is made softer with a pastel pink blouse underneath it.

That Oscar de la Renta Gamboge dress is to die for! I love how the bright colour sets off the black applique so beautifully.
Yes, I love that one! The silhouette, the colors, everything about it is beautiful.
Love the focus on velvet this year. Have always admired Alice and Olivia’s designs and again they do not disappoint. The green Antonoff is also simply stunning .
Me too! Velvet is such a rich fabric, any garment fashioned from it looks exquisite, but I am living for these velvet suits! I love Alice and Olivia, I always look forward to looking through their collections. That Antonoff suit is a show stopper, I’m in love with it!
