While minimalism may be making a comeback, there’s something to be said for extravagance. Although a simple silhouette made from a solid fabric may be practical, it doesn’t quite excite the senses like a statement silhouette paired with a conversational print and some eye-catching accessories. This season has been all about the subtle statement, and also the not-so-subtle statements. From sequins fashioned into blazer dresses and embroidered lace utilized for extravagant bodysuits, being extra has never been so simple. Let’s take a look at what’s made us stop and stare this season, and how to incorporate them into your closet.
Conversational Prints
Conversational prints are the perfect way to stand out. Alexander McQueen elevates a simple suit with an abstract design, while Emilio Pucci takes stripes to a new level on a gorgeous body-con dress. Gucci’s bright floral print pops on a white background, and the beautiful green trim is the perfect finishing detail.
Utilize a silk print for a real pop, or check out one of Mood’s Exclusive collections for a variety of conversational prints. There is no such thing as a silent animal print, or utilize paisley for some peaceful power.
Statement Sleeves
Sometimes, all you need to make a statement is a trick up your sleeve. Sometimes, all you need is a sleeve, period! Alexander McQueen brings some sunshine to a raincoat with cropped puff sleeves, and Emilio Pucci’s pleated drop waist dress features some stunning contrast sleeves. Tory Burch’s simple dress silhouette is accented beautifully with big puff sleeves and some beautiful crane appliques.
Try pairing a matching pattern in two different fabrics (like voile sleeves on a sateen dress), easy to do when you look at the stunning Mood Exclusives! Check out lace fabrics for a lightweight look, or velvet for a weighty, voluminous style like bishop sleeves!
Stop and Stare Fabrics
A simple silhouette can go from understated to statement with a change of fabric. Alexander McQueen’s body-conscious dress is elevated with lace and tulle, while Emilio Pucci’s single-shouldered dress features an art-deco style abstract print made up of stunning sequins. Gucci takes an already stunning silhouette and steps it up a notch with a beautiful golden lame, perfect for a low key afternoon. Just kidding! It’s perfect for 80’s night at the local goth club or heading to a gala event.
Sometimes, all you need is a striking fabric to make a statement. Check out velour for a stretchy fabric for a nice shine, or utilize reflective fabrics! Jacquards feature stunning prints with a lot of great texture, ideal for grabbing everyone’s attention!
Striking Silhouettes
A striking silhouette can speak for itself, something Alexander McQueen’s stunning soft blue dress exemplifies. Gucci’s simple skirt and extravagant poncho are perfect for travel, while Louis Vuitton’s over-the-top sleeves are top-tier!
The Subtle Statement
The subtle statement is the perfect way to stand out without taking a stand. Emilio Pucci’s abstract pants in red and blue pair perfectly with a pastel blue fur coat and matching turtle neck, while Gucci’s cherry printed jumpsuit and matching turban are a striking testament to delicate and daring fashion. Tory Burch’s pretty floral print features subtle seams that pop in playful colors, the perfect way to add a subtle statement to any garment.
Floral prints are an excellent way to make a subtle statement, as their graceful look can mask their loud colors. Adding chainmail detailing to a garment adds a lovely pop of texture, and pleated chiffon can add a delicate detail to any ensemble.
Everything I own makes a statement, it’s so hard to choose which trend I’ll be trying! How will you be making a statement this season? Let me know!
