Garments may seem basic, but designers know they’re intricate pieces of fabric, sewn together in a variety of ways, to create pieces of art. There were so many different silhouettes at Paris Fashion Week this season, no two collections looked alike. Let’s take a look at the top silhouettes from Paris Fashion Week Spring 2018.
Asymmetry
From sheer space to total cut outs, asymmetry was seen throughout the week. Guy Laroche’s black dress featured sheer panels on the right side of the garment, while remaining totally opaque on the left. Both Proenza Schouler and Paul & Joe used asymmetry in the sleeves, one arm featuring a strap and a sleeve while the other simply had a sleeve, and Isabel Marant and Haider Ackermann utilized various cut outs to show off asymmetry.

Cutouts
Flashes of flesh and sneak peaks of skin were offered up at PFW this season with cut outs. Alexander McQueen’s already sheer dress left nothing to the imagination with midriff cutouts, while Y/Project kept covered while sporting an upper thigh cut out. Balmain and Zuhair Murad both featured the simple sleeve cut out, while Valentino paired sleeve cutouts with a decolletage cut out, too.

Folded Neckline
The folded neckline was featured all over Paris this season. Alexander McQueen’s leather jacket was juxtaposed beautifully with the red lining that folded down, while Off-White went with a more subtle fold. Moncler Gamme Rouge and Vera Wang paired their folded necklines with straps, while Valentin Yudashkin went with a more intense fold.

Square Necklines
The square neckline added elegance and poise to collections all over Paris this season. Christian Dior’s maxi dress looks straight from the closet of Queen Elizabeth I, while Hermes went for a square neckline much more suited to the modern woman. Paul & Joe’s peasant blouse is perfect for a relaxing day on the town, antique shopping and drinking tea, while Saint Laurent’s puffy dress is ideal for an exciting evening out. Rodarte’s sheer dress is layered beautifully over a body suit, leaving just a little to the imagination.

Tiers
Tiers towered over other styles and silhouettes at Paris Fashion Week this season. Andrew Gn’s alternating patterns adds beautiful depth to this tiered maxi dress, and Rahul Mishra’s dress fades from blue to orange through different tiers. Chanel’s tiered dress looks powerful, almost like armor, while Isabel Marant and Johanna Ortiz utilized tiers for stunning party dresses.
