Wardrobe Reboot for Fall

Posted on October 13, 2020 by Stephanie Triplett

A new season means new styles. It’s time to hit the reset button on your wardrobe to prepare for the cooler air, so take notes because I'm about to help you get your fall wardrobe in order AND give you free downloadable patterns to recreate the looks.

The Essentials

Find inspiration online if you’re feeling stuck and then start gathering pieces from your closet. You’ll find that pieces you’ve already created and RTW pieces are easy to transform to fit your current needs. A reboot means to restart, but it doesn’t mean you’ve got to restart from scratch.

Tops

Make a statement with your tops. What you need for fall is already in your wardrobe, and with a quick makeover, you’ll be ready for all of the fun fall festivities in no time.

Collared Shirt

A clean-cut button-up shirt is essential, which is easy since we all practically already own one. This season the collared shirt is getting a spicy revamp with an emphasis on the collar the bigger and more eccentric, the better.

Pattern Suggestions:

The Melia Blouse

The Melia Blouse

The Melia Blouse features a wide button up collar, perfect for the addition of a bold and chunky necklace, and adorable puff sleeves with easy embellishments that will keep you looking as cute as a button! Download it here!

The Hollyhock Shirt

The Hollyhock Shirt

With a peter pan collar and a simple silhouette, dress it down with some black slacks or up with a metallic circle skirt and some sparkly earrings. Use a solid color for a dependable work shirt, or utilize a fun print for hitting the town. Download it here!

Turtleneck

This is another piece that most of us have, and to my surprise, it’s easy to add a little refresh to your beloved turtle necks this fall. Add some details like lace or appliques to the sleeves to spice them up, and you’re good to go.

Pattern Suggestions:

The Felicia Sweater

The Felicia Sweater

The Felicia Sweater can be made from a number of Mood’s stunning fabrics, but for an extra comfy touch, I strongly recommend their bamboo knits and their rayon rib knits. Download it here!

The Iris Bodysuit

Bottoms

Keep your selection of bottoms sleek and minimal this season to let the real style breadwinner do the talking (which is obviously outerwear).

Lounge Pants

If there is one piece you already own, it’s bound to be a dependable and chic pair of lounge pants. When you have the right ones, you’ll know because you’ll style them with everything and dread wash day. After all, it means you have to part with them for a few hours. High waisted joggers are a perfect candidate that checks the major lounge pant boxes.

Pattern Suggestions:

The Brya Pants

You could definitely style them into a great athleisure look, or dress them up with a cute pair of heels.  If you’re looking for something with a little more warmth, try Mood Fabrics crushed velour or the fleece backed knit, both with 4-way stretch! Download it here!

The Banksia Pants

The Banksia Pants

Signature Jeans

Skinny jeans are leaving the chat, and relaxed jeans with a straight leg and high waist are moving in, and it seems they're here for good. Invest in making a good pair because they’ll be a staple in your wardrobe.

Pattern Suggestions:

The Nolana Jeans

The Nolana Jeans

Boyfriend jeans are the perfect thing for a casual day out, or you can class them up with some cute heels for Sunday brunch. The Nolana Jeans are cut right at the calf, so you can show off all your best shoes, especially if they match these adorable studs I chose to add to this pair. Download it here!

The Forsythia Jeans

The Forsythia Jeans

I’m usually one for skinny jeans, but as more and more wide-leg pants hit the runways, I figured I should just go all the way with a high-waisted flare silhouette. Download it here!

**While we haven’t yet released the “perfect” jeans for fall, the Nolana Jeans are a great start. Alter the pattern through the leg for a more relaxed mom fit or taper the leg of the Forsythia Jeans!

Faux Leather

It is a runway reoccurrence each season, and it’s practically a wardrobe staple at this point. The type of clothing itself is up to you so you can take the reins from here.  A solid pair of leather pants of a leather blazer is an excellent place to start. I’m currently gathering materials to make the perfect pair of leather leggings.
