Primary colors are some of the most fundamental ones on the color wheel (a strictly Stephanie opinion).
Pantone’s Color of 2020 is classic blue, and unsurprisingly so, the remaining primary colors are making a huge appearance for fall. Runway shows for fall ‘20 were chocked full of the back-to-basics colors, and so were the streets. Since COVID-19 made its mark, primary colors seem to be appearing even more large and in charge. Although lots of designers were forced to shut down during the pandemic, streetwear brands have manifested the trend to even larger heights. These colors look great on garments for lounging, in-home photoshoots, or walking your dog around the block. Find out what these colors mean, how to style them, and what colors they pair best with.
Blue
According to Pantone, classic blue is a calming color that exudes confidence and connection by highlighting our desire for a solid foundation to build as we enter the threshold of a new era. Smashing blue tones with loads of appeal appeared on the Fall ‘20 runway, and you can wear them, too. Step out of your comfort zone into a bold blue blazer, pairing it with neutral colors, or keeping the entire look monochrome (another trend for the upcoming season). Reach for orange or pastel-colored pieces to add the perfect complement to your outfit. Send out good vibes while turning over a new leaf in style!
Red
An influential color in fashion always— displaying passion, luck, and happiness. Red is a strong color that packs a daring punch, whether it’s a dress, an accessory, or a red lip. After seeing a bright red ball gown on the fall runway, I’ve been captivated more than usual. Red fabrics in lace, silk, or velvet create a sensual look and feel. Stunt in a bodycon dress for an all-eyes-on-you look or rock some wide-legged trousers to your business meeting to seal the deal! Colors that pair perfectly with red are yellow, blue, green, and orange, so the color combos are plentiful. Work your catwalk, babe!
Yellow
Primary yellow is one that fills the heart with happiness, cheer, and confidence. In past seasons I’ve gravitated towards mustard yellow, but this fall I’m excited to shift the shade to a brighter yellow. When I see someone wearing yellow, or I’m wearing yellow myself, it seems to be a mood shifter in the best way. Go for a power move by wearing a yellow suit that screams self-assured or a midi skirt that’s flowy and free for a more relaxed vibe depending on your agenda and mood for the day. If you’re looking for colors to match your yellow garments, then reach for blue, navy, indigo, and lavender. You’ll be walking on sunshine once you slip into your yellow duds for the day!
Primary colors are staple colors, and I’m so happy they’ll be getting the fashion moment that they deserve this fall. Rock the primaries together or separately and wear them without or without a purpose. Even in times of uncertainty, it’s acceptable to stay trendy and stylish.
