There comes a point every year when it becomes too cold to function and you’ll find me wrapped in some cozy knits until spring. This is that point. The Willow Cardigan free sewing pattern features some medieval-inspired mutton sleeves, so for this redux I chose to spice up the pockets and collar a bit to match. My comfy chic version is made with the softest bamboo cotton terry I’ve ever felt, but it would look and feel just as lovely in a wool knit or waffle knit!

All seam allowances are 1/2″ unless otherwise stated. See chart below for sizing specifications. Note, this specific pattern is available up to a size 30.

The first alteration I made for this look was to update the pockets. I found a medieval looking shield online and resized it so it would be about 7″ tall. It was then printed out, I added 1/2″ seam allowance around the outside and cut 4 from my terry cloth.
With the faces together, I split the 4 layers into two piles and sewed around the edge. Leaving about 1″ open on one side, I turned the pockets right-side-out and edge-stitched the top edge. The pockets were then pinned into place and top-stitched down.

The faux fur collar I added simply lays atop the cardigan like a scarf, which I absolutely love so I can wear it with other outfits as well.
All I did was freehand the lapel on some pattern paper. The center back line measured about 13″, seam allowance included. I cut the lining slightly smaller than the faux fur so that the fur curled under just a bit.

To sew, use Wonder Clips to secure the lining face to the face of the fur. Be sure to push all the fur inward, away from the seams.
Sew around the entirety of the collar, leaving about 4″ open on the inside of the neckline, like you see below. Clip your seam allowance, turn your collar right-side-out, and slip-stitch the opening closed.
