What should one wear to an interview, job, a big presentation, and how casual is Casual Friday? These are questions we’ve all asked ourselves. Thanks to COVID-19, those with office jobs have been placed at home to take their meetings and calls, but business, as usual, hasn’t stopped completely. People everywhere are struggling to hold onto their purpose, structure, and productivity and the causes for these feelings likely stems back to your wardrobe. Keep reading to find out how to ace your Zoom calls and face your day of work from your home office, kitchen table, or even your bed like a seasoned pro.
A little fun fact before we jump into things— Pre-COVID, people everywhere were dressing from the waist down for years (ie. Ronald Raegan, YouTubers, and anyone who already worked from home permanently).
As Zoom, Facetime, and Skype have all become a part of our current business model, we are adapting accordingly. The CDC recommends that people continue to keep some type of routine to help ease anxiety. For some, getting dressed is the structure that they need to mentally prepare for their day. I will note: Your type of work and tasks for the workday are very dependent on your outfit for that day, and you should dress accordingly, so keep that in mind.

What to Wear
Below is a list of very Zoom appropriate outfits to get you through your daily meetings.
1. Tops
A full-coverage blouse, a collared shirt, and even a t-shirt (with toppings) are all acceptable options for Zoom calls.
2. Toppings (a.k.a Outerwear)
You instantly appear more professional when sporting a fitted blazer, cardigan, or shirt-jacket. Have them accessible for important video presentations or last-minute calls with clients or management.
**Remember: Even on a casual day full of meetings, your top half needs to be wrinkle-free and clean.
3. Pants
Unpopular opinion— pants are important for business calls. You never know what could happen during the call, like a kiddo catastrophe or the accidental pants in frame (ie. my worst nightmare), so just wear something. Leggings or semi-fitted sweatpants will do the trick since no one is going to see your lower half, but if they do, you won’t shriek in embarrassment.
Figuring out our new work routines continues to be full of trial and error, and that’s okay. It’s relatively simple to fool the camera into thinking you’ve been prepared for your meeting all morning. Grab your Zoom staples and keep them in a place that’s easy to access, and you’re sure to seal the business deal and WOW your boss (or at least satisfy the standard) every time.
