Ottoman Fabric

Although often thought of as a home decor textile ideal for ottomans or couches, Cotton Ottoman Fabric can be of a fashion weight, as shown here, and used for cozy cardigans or structured slacks. Ottoman fabric features a crosswise ribbing or cording, in which the individual wales are larger than that of a faille or bengaline. Stiff, this fabric doesn't gather well, nor can it be shirred. Ottoman fabric is known for its slippery seams, and shouldn't be too fitted. Hailing from the Ottoman Empire, the original ottoman was a piece of sectional furniture that wrapped around the room, which evolved into the pouffe it is known as today in the early 1900s.
