Buckram Fabrics are coarsely woven and treated with a stiffening glue to achieve their exceptional body while remaining relatively lightweight. Rigid in drape, buckram is useful as an interlining in sculptural fashion, from runway-ready evening gowns to costumes to tailored vests and jackets. The stiffener softens in water, making it ideal for shaping into hats and fascinators—but it, therefore, is not suitable for garments that may be in wet or damp environments. In addition to fashion applications, buckram is also used in a variety of craft projects, including bookbinding.
