From Faux Shearling to Faux Fox Fur, the reason why Mood’s selection is so diverse is because the history of faux fur wouldn’t have it any other way. First introduced in 1929, and sold commercially since the 1950s, faux fur has been revered as a fashionable alternative to traditional fur clothing. Originally comprised of shorter, less striking piled fabrics from the 1930s through the 1950s, by 1957, faux fur manufacturers were producing rich mink, chinchilla, and pony iterations. In the early 1970s, the leading faux fur outlet, E.F. Timme & Son, or “Timme-Tation,” launched an ad campaign featuring the faux fur-draped, iconic likes of Doris Day, Mary Tyler Moore, and Angie Dickinson. Today, when it comes to the communication of luxury and status, faux fur variations have come to rival their traditional counterparts.
