Did a knit fabric catch your eye? We have endless options to choose from! There are many advantages to sewing with knit fabric. It’s elastic, wrinkle-resistant, and feels luxuriously soft. Plus, it’s a good fabric to work with even for beginner sewers with its drapability and flow.

Supplies Needed with Knit Fabric

When sewing with knit fabric, you’ll want to have the right supplies. While it’s not hard to sew with, the smoothness of the fabric can make it slippery. Check out our recommendations below:

  • Sewing Needle: You’ll want a ballpoint or stretch needle when working with knit fabric.
  • Thread: Polyester thread is a good choice due to its stretch and strength.
  • Pins, clips, and pincushion: Ballpoint pins or sewing clips will help keep your fabric in place without snagging it. A pincushion provides a place to safely store your pins.
  • Scissors or Rotary Cutter: Cut clean, even lines in your knit fabric with sharp scissors or a rotary cutter.

Overall, knit fabric is a great material. It’s comfortable, stretchy, and doesn’t tend to fray. We have a wide variety for you to choose from. Cotton and polyester are great alternatives if you’re looking for something slightly different than knit fabric with many of the same qualities.
