About Max Alexander
True design doesn't wait for age, and Max Alexander is proof that greatness starts from the smallest sparks.
Max Alexander’s journey began with a dream. At four years old, before he had ever touched a needle, he announced to his family that he was a dressmaker. Armed with a homemade cardboard dress form built by his mother, his innate talent quickly blossomed into a world-shattering passion.
By age seven, he made history as the youngest person ever to design a runway show. Recently, at just 10 years old, he captured global hearts once again by setting his second Guinness World Record as the youngest designer to debut a collection at Paris Fashion Week—presenting a breathtaking runway show at the Palais Garnier crafted almost entirely from eco-conscious and rescued deadstock materials.
Driven by a heartfelt mission to make people feel beautiful using environmentally friendly fabrics, the Los Angeles–based prodigy has inspired millions around the globe. Today, Max takes the next meaningful step in his artistic story, partnering with Mood Fabrics—America’s premier fabric destination—to launch his very first original, eco-friendly fabric collection so makers everywhere can bring their own dreams to life.
Why Max Chose Mood
"Walking into MOOD NY for the very first time with my family—it was better than Disneyland."
The choice to create a custom fabric collection—and to partner with Mood—was entirely Max's own.
"I’ve been designing clothes since I was four years old, and the fabric is always where everything starts. When I walked into Mood for the first time and saw the colors and textures, I knew exactly what I wanted. Every fabric I chose, I could already see the dress in my head."
Max has fond memories of Mood from over the years! He has often shopped in both the NYC and LA locations, and has made lasting relationships throughout those visits. A couple of his favorite memories include:
"Playing tag with Francesca through the aisles of MOOD NY!" and "Gunnar Deatherage surprising me on my first visit to MOOD LA, and then getting to drape with him later at his studio."
Max's Favorite Mood Memories
From games of tag in the store aisles to surprise draping sessions, Mood has always felt like home to Max.

Max’s Mood Helpers
Design is always a team effort! While draping his vision on the Mood sales floor, Max relies on his favorite Mood helpers to hold pins, hand him materials, and help bring his bold ideas to life right on the mannequin. -
A Surprising LA Visit
What began as Max’s very first trip to MOOD LA turned into an unforgettable design session when fellow designer Gunnar Deatherage stopped by for a surprise visit! The two immediately hit it off, leaving the store loaded with Mood bags and heading straight to Gunnar’s studio to drape side-by-side. -
The Ultimate Designer Tool
No design session is complete without the right tools! Max poses on the floor of MOOD NYC showing off his favorite cutting essential—Mood's iconic Metallic Gold 9" Knife-Edge Dressmaker's Shears.
Q&A with Max: The Collection
The Theme
"A Safari Made From Happiness!"
Choosing the fabrics
"Picking the grounds for the fabrics was HARD because Mood has soooo many options! First, I narrowed everything down to fabrics made with natural fibers or recycled materials. Then I looked for the ones that had great movement, interesting textures, and felt exciting to design with."
How does he want people to feel?
"I want people to feel happy, comfortable, fancy, and like they’ve made one small choice toward being more sustainable."
Luxury + sustainability
"I don’t think luxury and sustainability are opposites at all. Natural and recycled fibers can absolutely feel luxurious. It’s all about what you create with them, how you style them, and the attitude you bring when you wear them."
Will Max design with the collection?
"Yes! I’m planning to make garments from the fabrics and sell some of the finished designs too. I’m really excited to see what the fabrics become."
Core of the Collection: Sustainability
"This collection reflects how much I care about sustainability. Every fabric has its own story, whether it’s made from natural fibers, recycled materials, or a mix of both. The colors also feel like a more grown-up version of me and my designs than when I started at four."
Sustainability is built into every yard of the Mood x Max collection. Inspired by his Paris Fashion Week runway show—which featured designs constructed overwhelmingly from deadstock and upcycled materials—Max hand-selected grounds made with natural and recycled fibers.
"At the core of this collection is the idea that one small choice can make a big difference. Sustainability doesn't have to mean being perfect. It can be about the tiny choices we make every day and changing little habits that add up to something much bigger."
Featuring low-impact textiles like BCI Cotton, recycled polyester faux fur, Ecovero viscose rayon challis, and European Flax linen, this collection proves that luxury and eco-conscious design go hand-in-hand.
