Note: Some patches may be iron on, but if you are using a mesh or any type of polyester, I recommend avoiding the iron and hand sewing instead.
Step 1
Cut out your pattern.
Step 2
Measure the straps on the sides of your top, cut out two strips of the stretch tape to the length needed for your size. For our samples are a size 4 and the sides measure 13″.
Step 3
Fold the tape in half over the raw side edges of your top and sew with a stretch stitch.

Step 4
Cut a strip of stretch tape to the neck tie/binding length noted in the size chart.
Step 5
Put a pin in the center front of the neckline as well as the middle of the tape. Matching the two pins at the center front, pin and sew using a stretch stitch.

Step 6
Mark your gathers along the bottom edge using pins and sew gathering stitch. Gather both spots so they each measure to 1’’ total.
Step 7
Cut the bottom binding/ties according to the size chart and repeat step 5, matching the center front together. Fold, pin, and sew using the stretch stitch.

Step 8
I recommend trying on your top or placing it on your dress form to guarantee the right placement for your patches before pinning them into place.

Step 9
Once you have your patches pinned, lay your top flat on the table, and measure from the bottom of the tape to make sure they are level.
Step 10
Hand sew around the whole patch to complete.
it is very original and ingenious
For the ‘stretch stitch’ do you recommend using a serger or a zigzag/lightening stitch?
Hi Rebekah! A zig-zag or lightning stitch would be best for this pattern. 😀
Hi, I’ve tried several times to download the free “Ada Top” pattern, to use as a fill in for deep necklines, using a pretty stretch lace, or colorful fabric; but it never shows up in my inbox. Is it free only with fabric purchase? Not sure I understood the instructions.

Is there a tutorial on YouTube that might be able to help? I sewed when I was younger but I’m not the best and I need some tips
Unfortunately, there is not a video on the Ada Top, but you can check out our youtube page for other videos and future sewing tutorials to come!
