For our next pattern redux, I’m excited to bring you what seems to be, in my opinion, “The It Jacket” of the season! The Avelia Bomber Pattern has been updated to fit the cozy and comfy style of the “Teddy Bear Coat” trend. This trend has seemed to come and conquer the outerwear market like nothing I’ve seen before! Part of its lasting success can be attributed to its ability to evolve into new and exciting silhouettes every year. Now, we are starting to see more versatility such as zip-up hoodies, moto and bomber jackets. Made with Mood Fabrics’ cozy and comfy velvet bonded shearling fleece, the Avelia Redux is a young fresh take on this everlasting trend, so don’t wait and get started on yours today!

Any guidance as to the construction?
Hi Elizabeth! The original instructions for this pattern are here. 🙂
The original pattern has the pockets in a different place than the photos of this redux garment. Do you have an updated one?
Hi Melissa, we’re sorry for the delay in responding to your question! We get dozens of comments and questions each day, and so many questions get buried and, unfortunately, unanswered. We are now focusing user support on patterns 2 years and newer. We hope this will prevent questions on our more current patterns from going unanswered. Although this is late, we wanted to respond in case anyone else has the same question: this redux had changes that were self-drafted and that will not reflect onto the original pattern. Here is a great guide into inserting your own pockets.
Hi! Do you have any recommendations for fabric to get a similar look as that fabric is no longer available? Thank you!
Hi, Marisa! Mood has some other shearling available here. 🙂
Is there instruction on how to sew this differently than the original pattern? It does not seem that the original pattern accounts for the green on the outside of this jacket.

This jacket does not follow the pattern pieces on the download using the original rainbow reflective fabric. . It has been modified and stylized to add a contrasting panel on the under sleeve and the side seams. In fact the side seam panel appears to mimic princess lines. I think it would be helpful for intermediate home sewists to make the differences clear. That said, perhaps you could also create a modified pattern using this white faux fur and satin like material in this view. Clearly this pattern has a younger appeal and is more eye catching in its style. Although I will be making the other jacket pattern with the reflective fabric. Thank you so much for providing this inspiring approach for us all.
Hello!
Thank you for your feedback. Most of the instructions on our 350+ patterns, especially these older ones, do reflect their no-cost nature. But we understand your frustration! As this was a redux, the changes made from the original pattern were self drafted, thus our older patterns are missing this information. Unfortunately we can’t update the instructions on every pattern in our archive, especially if they are over 2 years old, however, if there are errors we will correct them! We encourage you to take a look at the improved in newer patterns, offering more thorough guidance! We appreciate your engagement and invite you to explore these updated options for a better sewing experience!
