How to sew the Jugflower Pencil Dress: Top
Step 1
Sew the fabric and the lining simultaneously, starting with the side front pieces to the front.
Step 2
Sew the darts at the back of the top fabric and lining.
Step 3
Pin the back to the front and sew at the side seams.
Step 4
Make sure all pattern pieces for the top are sewn on the fabric and lining.
How to sew the Jugflower Pencil Dress: Bottom
Step 5
Sew the darts on the back skirt pieces of the fabric.
Step 6
Repeat by sewing the darts on the lining.
Step 7
Sew the two darts on the front skirt of the fabric and the lining.
Step 8
Sew the back skirts to the front skirt at the side seams.
Step 9
Make sure all pattern pieces are sewn for the skirt fabric and lining.
Step 10
Pin and sew the top to the bottom across the waistline.
Step 11
Press all the seams with an iron.
Step 12
Make sure the top and bottom are sewn together on the fabric and the lining.
Step 13
Pin and sew the shoulder seams, right sides together.
Step 14
Repeat by sewing the shoulder seams on the lining.
Step 15
Pin the lining onto the fabric, right sides together, then sew around the neckline at the front and the back.
Step 16
Sew a basting stitch 1/4″ across the top of the sleeve to gather and set in.
Step 17
Sew the seams closed, add elastic to the cuffs, hem the bottom, and gather at the top.
Step 18
Install the invisible zipper at center back. Make sure you catch the fabric and the lining all together.
Step 19
Hem the bottom of the fabric.
Step 20
Hem the bottom of the lining.
*For this project, the fabric and the lining were sewn together at the neckline and the zipper entry, but both skirts are individually hemmed. An alternative option would be to sew the skirt lining and fabric together at the bottom.
