Paper bag waists don’t seem to be going anywhere and hopping on this trend is easier than ever with Mood’s free Primrose Pants pattern and these quick and easy Piper Shorts shown above!

Purchase Materials Used Below:
- 2 yards Yellow Candy Striped Seersucker
- MDF050 – The Piper Shorts Sewing Pattern (free download below!)
Alternative Recommended Fabrics:
All seam allowances are 1/2″ unless otherwise stated. See chart below for sizing specifications. Note, this specific pattern is available up to a size 30.

These Piper Shorts go together in just a few hours and they’re so cute that you’ll want to make them again and again! (Maybe in all 30 colors of Mood’s adorable seersucker?)
If you haven’t seen the original version of these shorts, these are them below. The pattern goes in just a tad at the thighs for a more fitted silhouette:

If you’d like a more flared look, there’s a very simple alteration you can do to your pattern!
Once your pattern is all taped together, take a ruler and line it up with the widest part of your pant panel at the hips and draw a line straight down to the bottom edge of the shorts. This is your new side seam cut line! Repeat for both your front and back shorts panels.

Will you be giving this pattern a try? Let me know in the comments below!

My granddaughter and I plan on making these today! She is really excited.
Is there instructions for any of the patterns
Yes, you can find the instructions here! 🙂
Thank you soo much for this. These are good challenges for me to try.
I’m in love with these, especially the color! The original pattern calls for a yard of fabric, and this version calls for two yards. Is there really that much of a difference? Would a yard and a half be enough for this version?
Hi Alyssa! It depends what size you’re making – I’d says 1.5 yards would be enough for most sizes (I probably used closer to 1.5 yards than a full 2 yards for this size). The main pattern piece to keep in mind is the belt – if you get only 1 yard, you may need to lay it on the cross grain. I hope that makes sense!
Does it really matter what kind of fabric you use?
A lightweight, breathable fabrics is best – you can find all of Mood’s recommended summer fabrics here!
I love the patterns.
