From plaid wovens to matka, Mood’s collection of expertly curated fabrics is as inspired as the story of Raw Silk Fabric itself. Otherwise known as Silk Noil, the production of raw silk fabric has its beginnings in Neolithic China (4th millennium BCE). Confined to China until the opening of the Silk Road in 120 BCE, raw silk fabric wasn’t solely utilized for the production of clothing. Raw silk fabric was used for writing, and the color of silk worn was an indicator of one’s social class during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). From the Industrial Revolution to the 21st Century, raw silk fabric maintained its reputation as a rare luxury good.
