What Fabric Fibers Are Considered Athleisure Fabric?

Athleisure fabric can have a wide variety of fibers, including synthetics such materials as nylon, polyester, lycra, and more. However, semi-synthetic materials such as rayon and natural fibers such as cotton can also be included in athleisure fabrics.

Advantages of Athleisure Fabric:

  • Athleisure fabric is stretchy and soft
  • It is a breathable material
  • Athleisure fabrics are moisture-wicking
  • Its high elasticity means it keeps its shape

How to Best Work with Athleisure Fabric:

  • Use a stretch stitch as this is a stretchy fabric
  • An overlocker or overstitch machine is helpful for sewing athleisure fabric
  • Sew a test swatch to check for stretching
  • You may want to sew elastic into seams to help retain stretch
