Flame Resistant Fabric

Created after World War II by the National Fire Protective Association, flame-retardant chemicals were used as a finish on natural fibers, such as cotton. The term fire-retardant may also refer to man-made fibers that are flame-resistant as well. Primarily given to fabrics used in home upholstery, staging and drapery, the finish activates when it is near a flame working to resist igniting and prevents fire from spreading.
